Tosa Seicho Dial
Osaki Paper

Tosa Seicho paper is used for the dials of The CITIZEN Eco-Drive models. Light permeable while also allowing for beautiful colours, Tosa Seicho paper is a designated Intangible Cultural Asset in Japan. We interview Akari Kataoka, the fourth-generation head of Osaki Paper, and the sole heritor of the traditions and techniques of making Seicho paper.

Tengu-jo Dial
Hidakawashi Co., Ltd

Light permeable and capable of being dyed the most gorgeous colours, Tengu-jo paper, an ultra-thin washi, is used for the dials of The CITIZEN Eco-Drive . We spoke to Hiroyoshi Chinzei, the fifth-generation head of Hidakawashi, the company responsible for making this ultra-thin paper.

Watanabe’s

A hand-dyed indigo washi paper dial created in collaboration with a company based in Tokushima prefecture in Shikoku , the heartland of Japan’s indigo tradition. Founder Kenta Watanabe, who tackled the challenge of repeatedly dipping the thin Tosa washi into a vat of natural dye, tells us about the manufacturing process and his thoughts on the craft of indigo dyeing.
